    Notes about James Robertson

    1. Ref Scottish Coalmining Ancestors by Lindsay S. Reeks Page.
James Robertson's parentage is unknown. He m. 20 Aug. 1680, Largo p., Margt. Duncan, after being proclaimed,
Witnesses were George Duncan & John Ratray [172]. It is likely James Robertson m. (1) 12 Jul. 1678, Largo p., Ann Pearsone [172]. Only one known child Elspet, was bp. there, res. Balcormie, 16 Jun. 1679 [167], wit: Robt. Pearsone & John Robertson, the latter, who may have witnessed bp. of James' dau. , Janet, in 1686. Possibly, Ann Pearsone died of childbirth, and James may have remarried the following year.
Largo KSM indicate that on 30 Nov. 1703 testificates were given to James Robertson, son of James Robertson in Largo, and to Jannet Robertson, also the said James' dau. [174]. This may relate to the ancestor, although a son, James, has not been found.

    Children by second wife:
i Barbara, bp. 8 Oct. 1681, res. Nether Moorton of Lundie, Largo p., wit: George & Alexander Duncan [167]. N.f.r
ii William, bp. 27 Jan. 1684, res. OverMoorton,Largo p., wit: Wm. Duncan, Robt. Angus [167].
    2. iii Janet, bp . 18 Jul. 1686, res. Over Noorton, Largo p., wit: Alexander Duncan, John Rotson [167]. M. Andrew Archibald.
iv John, bp. 6 Dec. 1695, res. N. Lundie Moorton, Largo p., wit: Thos. Morton, Thos. Ness [167]. He may be the one who m. Elspeth Wright 15 Jun. 1719, Largo p. [172], but other proof needed. Note: Bps. of Largo p. are missing from Aug. 1689 to Jan. 1691, during which time another child of James & Margt., may have been baptized,

    2. JANET ROBERTSON was bp. 18 Jul. 1686, res. Over Noorton, Largo p., dau. of James Robertson & Margt. Duncan.
She m. 18 Aug. 1710, Largo p., Andrew Archibald, after being proclaimed 22 Jul. [172]. It is believed this m. relates to ancestor, as her first son was named James and her second dau., Margt. As in Scoonie KSM on Andrew Archibald, the family moved to Scoonie p. from Largo p. ca. 1717-19, and on 25 Feb. 1750 Janet was given a shilling per month as Andrew Archibald's widow in the coalhill, as her husband had been killed by a fall into one of Duries coalpits [171].
