Notes about William Gladstone

1. 1871 Census age should be 20, 1881 30, 1891 40, 1901 50

2. A 1950s photograph of the Albion Bar on the street that gave it its name, Albion Place.
Now a lost street name, this road was originally part of the thoroughfare from Wilton Parish to Edinburgh, and was previously known as Gib's Nose and Wilton Roadhead.
Gib's Nose was owned by the Langlands family and first feued to James Davidson in 1768. The obscure name comes from the triangular shape of the land where Albion Place was later built. A blacksmith's shop stood on this corner until the mid-19th century.
Tenement housing was constructed on the north side of the street circa 1850 using stone from the Stirches Brick and Tileworks at Stouslie. These houses were demolished along with similar blocks in nearby Dickson Street, Wilton Crescent and Ladylaw Place between 1971 and 1972, as part of the Council's new development plan.
