Samen met tien lotgenoten is hij op de schietbaan in Leusden gefusilleerd als represaille voor een overval op een zwarthandelaar in Nieuwleusden. Was lid van de N.B.S. De Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (BS) (officieel: Nederlandse Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten) was een op 5 september 1944 officieel opgezette bundeling van de tot dan toe weinig samenwerkende eigenlijke verzetsgroepen.


Ubel Nonkes Bulthuis is op 26 november 1944 naar Kamp Amersfoort gevoerd waar hij gevangene nummer 9177 werd. In de vooravond van 28 november 1944 is hij met 7 andere gevangenen gefusilleerd in een bosje achter de voormalige boerderij van het kamp op een plek die nu bekend staat als Graf nr. 2. Op deze plek is later een golfbaan aangelegd.
De executie was een represaille voor een aanslag op een zwarthandelaar uit de gemeente Nieuwleusen.
Het graf is op woensdag 27 juni 1945 na aanwijzing door de voormalige kampcommandant Karl Peter Berg onder leiding van rechercheurs van de Politieke Opsporings Dienst opengelegd. Ubel Nonkes Bulthuis is herbegraven op de Gem. Begraafplaats Kranenburg te Zwolle vak A nr 22.
