Hulshoff, geboren te Borne, gegoed aldaar, vertrekt naar Groningen en koopt aldaar in 1703 het Canterhuis in de Brugstraat, boekweitmulder en grutter, begraven te Groningen op 1 februari 1744, trouwt aldaar op 11 maart 1703 met Martje Harms (Marrichjen Harmens), geboren te Appingedam. Zij hertrouwt te Groningen (Nieuwe Kerk) op 13 maart 1745 met Bernardus van Frankendaal, uit Amsterdam.

    In oktober 1740 ondertekende Jan Gerrijts Hulshof een stedelijk reglement voor boekweitmolenaars in Groningen.
