Achternaam Gorter:
Een grutterij was veelal zowel het bedrijf waarin de grutten gemaakt werden, als de winkel waar grutterswaren verkocht werden. De grutter (gorter) was eveneens zowel de man die de grutten maakte, als de winkelier die ze verkocht. Vaak gingen deze beroepen samen. Het beroep leeft nog voort in familienamen als Gorter, De Grutter, De Gruyter en Grutterink. Grutten
zijn tot kleine stukjes gebroken zaadkorrels van boekweit. Het woord ‘grut’ of ‘grutte’ komt in het oudere Nederlands voor als gruis, met andere woorden als iets dat fijn verbrokkeld of althans klein is. Het woord wordt nu nog gebruikt in de term ‘klein grut’ voor allerlei klein goed, variërend van klein fruit tot kleine kinderen.
