Era residente à fazenda Pedreira quando morreu de "inflamação do estômago" aos 68 anos de idade. O declarante do óbito foi Pasqualeto Vicente.

Pelas datas, Pedro Joaquim parece ter mudado para Piracicaba na época do boom econômico da cana e do café na nova vila. Quando desmembrou-se de Itu e tornou-se freguesia, em 21 de junho de 1744, Piracicaba tinha apenas 230 habitantes, a maioria caboclos, escravos, índios e brancos pobres. Vivia da derruada de árvores que produziam a madeira usada nas canoas dos monçoeiros de Araritaguaba. Em 1784, com as viagens pelo Tietê em decadência, a povoação mudou-se para a outra margem do Piracicaba, para terrenos mais apropriados à agricultura. A fertilidade da terra atraiu fazendeiros, e disputas por sesmarias eram frequentes. Começava assim o ciclo da cana-de-açúcar, o que provocou uma rápida expansão populacional. Em 1816 eram 2 mil habitantes. Com o progresso veio a independência. Passou a ser reconhecida como vila em 1822, com o nome de Vila Nova da Constituição (uma extemporânea homenagem à constituição portuguesa de 1821, a mesma que precipitou o movimento de independência brasileira). A atividade econômica crescia rapidamente, com o total de engenhos de açúcar e aguardente chegando a sete. Quando tornou-se cidade, em 1856, a população já somava 20 mil almas, dos quais 13 mil viviam na zona rural, com uma forte presença de 5 mil escravos. Por essa época, que deve coincidir com a mudança de Pedro Joaquim para Piracicaba, a economia da nova cidade ainda era movimentada por quatro fazendas de produção de cana, quatro de gado e seis de chá. Mas a mola propulsora já começava a pular para uma outra cultura, o café. Contava-se 29 propriedades voltadas à produção do fruto. O progresso incluía duas escolas primárias que educavam 246 alunos. Quatro médicos atendiam a população. A navegação fluvial, origem de tudo, ainda mantinha sua importância estretégica, tanto que foi de barco a vapor que o imperador d.Pedro 2o. visitou a cidade em 1878. Mas um concorrente poderoso surgira no ano anterior: os trilhos da estrada de ferro Ituana chegaram a Piracicaba em 1877, facilitando o escoamento da produção. O trem, ao contrário dos barcos que seguiam a correnteza rio abaixo rumo ao interior, tinha como destino o litoral e o porto de Santos. Em 1881 o fazendeiro ilustrado Luiz de Souza Queiroz pediu autorização à Câmara para instalar uma escola agrícola que disseminasse o uso das mais modernas técnicas de lavoura. Tendo estudado na Europa, foi o idalizador da hoje centenária Faculdade de Agronomia que leva seu nome.
