Prior to 1800 the road from Goldsboro To Harrisburg was alongtheriver. Etter's Tavern on this highway above Goldsboro was at the point wherethe ferry from Middletown landed. For may years a post office was located there. When the post office was moved to Goldsboro the office retained the name Etters. The name Henry Etter ( spelled Eatter ) appears on Captain Thomas Robinson's muster roll for April 20, 1778 representing a militia company from Mt. Joy Twp., Lancaster Co. See Archives, 5th Series, Vol. 7, Pg. 197. Could have been Henry's Father.
