"Bij dezen heb ik de eer U.Ed.Gestr. mede te deelen dat alhier gisteren avond brand is ontstaan in een huis bewoond door twee gezinnen, toebehoorende aan den heer H.W. Weitkamp, koopman alhier, gelegen op een kwartier afstands buiten de stad, hetwelk in korten tijd geheel in de asch werd gelegd. Het grootste gedeelte der inboedels, alsmede de ingeoogste veldvruchten zijn mede een prooi der vlammen geworden. Drie koeijen konden nog in tijds worden gered, terwijl twee varkens en twee kalveren mede zijn omgekomen. Huis en inboedels waren tegen brandschade verzekert".
