Notes about Johannes Cornelis Spapens

Toelichting bij de foto uit 1915:

Splitsing Fabrieksstraat (rechts) en Bergstraat (links). Op de splitsing het woonhuis met bakkerij, gebouwd in 1914 voor bakker J.C. Spapens-Eijsermans onder architectuur van J.H. van den Abeelen uit Tilburg. Enkele jaren later, in 1917, blijkt het pand eigendom te zijn van de "Coöperatieve Bakkerij de Volharding". In genoemd jaar werd toestemming gegeven voor de bijbouw van een wagenhuis, een bakkerij, een kolenbergplaats en een paardenstal. Weer enkele jaren later zit in het pand de "Coöp. Bakkerij de Hoop". In de winkel is een van de drie Goirlese vestigingen van "Verbruikers Vereniging De Hoop" gevestigd. Het pand wordt dan bovendien bewoond door Jan van Erven-Santegoets. Nadat deze winkel was opgeheven kwam er een cafétaria met naam "Combi". Inmiddels was het pand eigendom geworden van de gemeente Goirle. Per 1 februari 1969 werd de huur opgezegd, waarna het pand gesloopt is. De oude pandjes rechts zijn later gesloopt om plaats te maken voor het winkelpand van de firma J. van Strijp-Verhagen, nu Primeur. De andere panden aan deze zijde, tot op de hoek van de toenmalige Hoogstraat, zijn gesloopt in 1973.
