Uit de ondertrouwakte kan worden opgemaakt, dat Jacob is geboren in Dantzig in Polen ca.1737 (hij is op 6 augustus 1762 25 jaar oud), gereformeerd is en woonde op de Zeedijk in Amsterdam. Zijn ouders zijn volgens het ondertrouwregister overleden
Zijn achternaam wordt in het begraafregister als "Machielse" geschreven. Verder wordt vermeld dat hij aan het "Vransepad" woonde. (Het Franse pad liep langs de Goudsbloem gracht in de Amsterdamse Jordaan. Na de demping van deze gracht in 1856 werd deze omgedoopt in Willemsstraat.)
