David Julianus Soetmulder heeft zijn eigen moutwijn distilleerderij gehad. Een document dat de majeur/majoor ontving in 1870 laat zien dat de zaken slecht gingen. Omdat zijn inkomen was teruggelopen verhuurde David Julianus zijn moutwijn distilleerderij en verhuurde zichzelf als bediende. Maar degene die hem inhuurde weigerde de huurprijs en de salarissen te betalen. Daarom heeft David Julianus een verzoek ingediend bij "Major" en De Raad voor hun steun bij het starten van juridische procedures. Blijkbaar is alles weer goed gekomen aangezien de naam Zoetmulder goed bekend bleef in de Moutwijnindustrie.
