    John A. Ver Steeg passed away Friday, August 13, at 7:30 a.m. at the age of 55 years, 4 months and 19 days. He suffered for several years with sciatic rheumatism and heart attacks. Later complications followed; from these he failed to rally. He was a son of the Sioux county pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. Gysbert Ver Steeg. He was born on the Ver Steeg farm about 1/2 mile east of Orange City, on March 25, 1882 and has always lived in this community. On April 24, 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Visser. The young couple settled on a farm, later moving to a small acreage near town. For the past 12 years he has been employed at the Cambier Motor Co.

    For several years he served as assessor of Holland township, also held the office of trustee for a number of years. He has for several years and at the time of his death still was associated with the New York Life Insurance Co.

    He is survived by his wife and 12 children. One child preceded him in death. Surviving children are: Carrie, Mrs. William Boone, Sioux Center; Jake J. Ver Steeg, Sibley, Bert J. Ver Steeg, Holland, Mich.; Henrietta, Mrs. Gerrit Wesselink, Ocheyedan; Lawrence and Wilbur, Orange City; Harold Ver Steeg, Hopkins, Mich.; Benjamin Ver Steeg, Holland, Mich.; Mabel, Marion, Nelvina, and Clarence at home. Other survivors are 18 grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. G. Ver Steeg, three brothers, Cornelius Ver Steeg, Alton; Henry Ver Steeg, Melvin; Bert Ver Steeg, Hull; three sisters, Mrs. Gerrit Kanis, Sheldon; Mrs. Nic Ver Steeg, Hancock, Minn.; and Mrs. Isaac Luymes, Orange City.

    Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 17, at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o'clock at the First Reformed church with Rev. Mr. H. Colenbrander officiating assisted by Rev. Mr. J. G. Brouwer.
