Notes about Francis Fowler

Francis Fowler, is listed in the 1850 Mortality Schedule for Horry District;
( Franccis Fowler, 75 years old, male, married, born in North Carolina, died in June, farmer, cause of death: unknown.)

Francis cannot be included in any family below that of Daniel I. He was born, according to Composite census data in exactly 1770. It is apparent that he was the second adult living in the family of Richard in 1790. One would expect to find him in the census of 1800, but so far there is no sign of his whereabouts unless he is the young adult living with John in the Lancaster district. He first surfaces for sure in the 1810 census or Horry County, and continues through 1840. Nevertheless he bought and sold land in Columbus County, in 1825, witnessed one of his brother Daniel`s deeds in 1811, was called as a juror in 1827, and his son Richard claimed to have been born in North Carolina in 1811, so that he must have moved back and forth. His first wife, who may have been a Wright, was born about 1773, and they had nine children several of whom seem to have died young or gone pioneering in there teens, considering the difficulty of location names for them. They were. 1f: a daughter (b. ca.1801)
2f: a daughter (b. ca. 1803); 3f: a daughter (b. ca. 1805) 4f: a daughter (b. ca. 1807)*; 1: Richard (b. 20 March 1810 NC); 2: Burrell (b. 1811 NC); 3: Wright
(b. 1813 SC); 4: George (b. 1816SC); 5: a son (b. ca. 1819SC)*.
Francis` first wife died about 1822, and he married second a widow named Susannah with three children in about 1824. They had one additional son in 1827 who is possibly the Levi of Pike County, Alabama 1850 census. A family legend in this branch is to the effect that Richard rode horseback to Alabama sometime before 1850 to visit his brothers. Francis is listed in the census table of mortality as having died in 1849.

In the 1840 Horry County, census page # 327, Frances Fowler, is listed as head of the following family; 1 Male of 10 and under 15 years of age; 3 males of 20 and under 30 years of age; 1 male (himself) of 60 and under 70 years of age;
1 female of 15 and under 20 years of age; 1 female (wife?) of 50 and under 60 years of age; no slaves. Francis Fowler, is living beside Jacob Fowler, and Andrew Fowler. (WSH)
