Notes about Samuel Milligan

from Debra Bohon and [Horry County Milligan's.FTW]
also have death date as January 1822, Brunswick County, North Carolina

A copy of Samuel Milliken's will is in the archives in Raleigh, North Carolina, filed in 1821 from Brunswick County. Not proven it is for this Samuel, but seems likely.

*from the Milliken's of Brunswick County, North Carolina

From "Millikens of Brunswick County, NC", pgs 617-623; "History of theFamilies Millingas and Millanges", compiled by Rev. Gideon Tibbetts Ridlon, Sr.:
Samuel Milliken, brother to Benjamin, received a grant of land, 12 Nov 1793, the same day on which Benjamin's was granted, consisting of 100 acres on the west side of Alligator Creek, 2 miles from its mouth, which is a tributary of Juniper Creek. This land is part sandy and part stiff clay and well adapted to corn, potatoes, rye, and tobacco. The estate is crossed by a public highway known as the "Big Necke Road." The scenery around this old homestead is very inviting in the springtime when the woodland is joyous with the sweet notes of feathered songsters so numerous in this section, the surface carpeted with verdant green, the atmosphere freighted with the aroma of a thousand wild flowers, the tinkling of bells, the lowing of cows, the droning of honey-bees, all contributing according to their order, to present an aspect truly pleasing to such as love natural scenery; but when the hoar-frost of grim winter comes to the scene is changed, the verdure disappears and al lthose features so much in evidence in the spring and summer are banished and a dreary loniness pervades the neighborhood. Such was the chosen place of abode of one of the first Millikens who settled in Brunswick County, North Carolina. Samuel Milliken's wife's maiden name is no tknow. He had issue: Samuel, Alexander, Moses, Sarah, Mary, Betsey, Kateand Lydia.

February 3, 1815, Moses Milliken enters 50 acres on east side of WaccamawRiver; border, the back of line of SAMUEL MILLIKEN's land where " said"Milliken lives.

Was Samuel also known as Moses???? from Bible records and old familyrecords Samuel & Moses have the same birthdate. The Moses born ca 1730 died in infancy, so was Samuel also called Moses??? Maybe twins???

Samuel Milligan was paying taxes in Brunswick County, North Carolina in 1784 but not listed on the 1790 or 1800 census.

from Debra Bohon and [Horry County Milligan's.FTW]

Samuel well may have been born in Brunswick County, North Carolina since Benjamin had a land grant by time of his birth.*

*Other records show his (Samuel Simon Milligan) birth date as 1 Jul 1761.(William S. Hardee) I believe the 1761 one to be the correct date in view of the fact that he had a land grant by 1778).

Marriage information and birth dates on Samuel and Isabel come from the papers written by Sarah Milliken. Birthdate for Samuel was December 28,1798, this can not be correct, it must be ca 1778 (28 Dec 1778).

* 1830 census of Brunswick County, North Carolina (This is probably for the son: Samuel Milligan).

1 female 20-30
possibly died without heir

Per Pam Bearden:
"I am confused. From the Milliken's of Brunswick County, by Ridlon, written in 1902, it states that Samuel Milliken, son of Moses, married Isabell McKeithan, they died without issue. From the Descendents of Moses Milliken, Samuel Milliken, son of Benjamin (and Betsey Hargrove), son of Moses, married Isabelle McKeithan."

Note from Henny Carlisle:
The Samuel in the 1830 census must be the son of Samuel Simon Milligan b. 1761.

In the 1850 census Isabella, age 79 is found living with her daughter and son-in-law Sarah and David Ross.

I don't know. It does seem more likely that Samuel is the son of Benjamin Milliken.
