Patrick de Dunbar, 5th Earl of Dunbar; led troops in suppression of the rebel Bastard of Galloway 1235; died Marseilles 1248 en route to Holy Land to join Crusade of St Louis IX of France. [Burke's Peerage]

EARLDOM OF DUNBAR (V)

PATRICK (DE DUNBAR), EARL OF DUNBAR [SCT], son and heir by 1st wife. He had an order for seisin of his lands 22 February 1232/3. He was in command of the army sent in 1235 against the Bastard of Galloway, whom he subdued; was guarantor of a treaty with England in 1237, and again in1244. He started for the Crusade under Louis IX., King of France, in November 1247.

He married, in or before 1213, Eupheme, daughter of William de Brus by Christina, daughter of [----] [and Earl Patrick's stepsister]. He died between May and December 1248, at Marseilles. His widow, who lived at Whittingham in East Lothian, died probably about 1267. [Complete PeerageIV:506, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
