From 1272 onwards, Bohun and Mortimer redoubled their efforts to repossess the Marcher Lordships granted to Llywelyn II under the Treaty of Montgomery. [A History of Wales, p. 154]

In 1292, when a dispute between Bohun and Clare over the boundary separating Glamorgan from Brecon had developed into open warfare, King Edward summoned both to appear before his council at Abergavenny; they were imprisoned and their lordships were distrained. [A History, p. 176]

Earl of Hereford and Essex; lord high constable; d. 1297; son of Humphrey de Bohun and Eleanor de Braose; m. Lady Maud de Fienes; father of Humphrey de Bohun. [Magna Charta Barons, p. 307]

Third earl of Hereford, who had succeeded his father in 1274, allied himself with Lord Mortimer of Wigmore against Llywelyn.
The conquest of Wales was followed by a dispute between the earls of Gloucester and Hereford over the division of the spoils, which gave Edward I a pretext for interfering in the Marches. In October 1291, Hereford was imprisoned for contumacy, and eventually he was deprived of some of his most valuable Marcher privileges, but in 1297 he had his revenge by joining the Earl Marshal in refusing to accompany Edward to Flanders and in inducing Parliament to insist on the Confirmatio Cartarum prior to the issue of a subsidy. [The Victoria History of the Counties of England: Herefordshire, p. 366]

m. Maud de Fiennes; father of Humphrey. [WFT Vol 13 Ped 990]
