Inherited Goodrich Castle from her uncle Aymer de Valence, but was forced to surrender her rights to Hugh Despencer. However, her husband, Richard Talbot, recovered the estates shortly afterwards and in 1346 they founded an Augustinian priory near the castle and later were permitted to have a prison for local malefactors in the castle.
The castle was a principal residence of the Talbots who were made richer by ransoms secured during the Hundred Years' War, and were created Earls of Shrewsbury in 1442. [Goodrich Castle, p. 23]
