SIR JOHN CAMPBELL, of Moulin, 2nd son of Sir Niel Campbell, of Lochow (towhom and to his wife the forfeited estates of the Earl of Atholl[Scotland] had been granted), being (by his mother Mary, sister of RobertBruce) cousin to David II, was by him created EARL OF ATHOLL [Scotland].He married Joan, widow of Malise, EARL OF STRATHERN [Scotland], daughterof Sir John MENTEITH of Rusky. He d. s.p., aged about 20, being slain atthe Scots defeat on Halidon hill, 19 July 1333, when the title becameextinct. His widow married (dispensation dated 11 July 1339) Sir MauriceMORAY, of Drumsargard, who had the Earldom of Strathern conferred on himin 1343/4, and who died 17 October 1346. She married, 4thly, as hissecond wife (post nuptial dispute, 9 Nov 1347), William (SUTHERLAND), 5thEARL OF SUTHERLAND, who died 1370. She was living 1367.
