SPEARS, John Thomas; KY; 1948, January 11; Somerset Newspaper--John Thomas Spears, age 66, died Sunday morning at his home in West Somerset following a short illness. He was born in Pulaski Co., January 9, 1882, being the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Spears. For many years he engaged in farming and was successful in this occupation. He also was an employee of the Southern Railway Company for a number of years, ill health forcing him to retire in 1934. He was well liked by his fellow workers and held in the highest esteem by his employers. He was a devoted husband and father. He will be sadly missed by many. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha Chumbley Spears; five daughters, Mrs. Coatney New, Waynesburg; Mrs. Marie Taylor, Somerset; Mrs. Bea Sword, Mrs. May White and Miss Naomi Spears,. all of Cincinnati; two sons, James Louis and Henry Spears, both of Cincinnati; five brothers, Hissie Spears, Mintonville; Catron Spears, Nelson Valley; Rufus, Banlow and Columbus Spears, all of Somerset, and one sister, Mrs. Rosie Correll, Somerset. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Cotter Avenue Church of God with the Rev. E. W. Carden officiating. Burial was in the Somerset City Cemetery
