first cousin to William Carter, who was captured at Gettyburg, Pa. July 1, 1863.
Enlisted at Camp Lamb at age 19, March 21, 1862,same time
as his brother Monroe. Captured at Spotsylvania Court House Va. on or about May 20, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled and transferred to Boulware's Wharf, James River, Va. where he was received March 18, 1865 for exchange.
