Notes about Gerrit Verdonk

De Verdonken, in Nauerna woonachtig, visten niet alleen in de omgeving van hun woonplaats, doch gingen ook met een botter naar Ouwerkerk aan de Amstel en Nigtevecht alwaar zij dan enige dagen verbleven.
Het ligt voor de hand dat ze, als visserslieden, hun werk en verblijf op de binnenwateren hebbende, een borrel dronken. Mogelijk mede daardoor was het dat de meeste Verdonken te Nauerna, tot in hun laatste levensjaren, een stevige borrel dronken.
Het huis genummerd 20 te Nauerna, is gebouwd door Piet Verdonk, geboren 9-3-1840. Later bewoond door zijn zoon Gerrit.
Onder de autochtonen van Nauerna heerst de algemene opvatting dat Gerrit zijn huis "verdronken" heeft. Gerrit bracht zijn laatste levensjaren door in een woonboot te Nauerna.
In het boek: Zaans namen Lexicon" door D. Kerssens is Gerrit op bladzijde 199 afgebeeld vanwege zijn bijnaam "Oude Pluut". Met het bijschrijft: "Het was een vrolijke kerel die veel "pluut" had in zijn leven. Pluut is Zaans voor lof of pret."
