Jan Roelofsz was een bastaardzoon. Hij was landpoorter van Dordrecht tussen 1445 en 1450. Dit was een burger, die was vrijgesteld van de verplichting om in de stad te wonen. Met behoud van alle rechten en plichten van het poorterschap.


In dit verband is een vermelding van 1438 interessant, waarin een Jan de Meijer Roelofsz een rente verkocht, staande een huys en erf tegenover de Schippersliedenkapel te Dordrecht. Een "meijer" was een vertegenwoordiger van de landheer, d.i. een schout, baljuw of rechterlijk ambtenaar. Hij woonde in de Riederwaard. In de periode 1443-1453 werd hij vermeld als eigenaar van 5 morgen land in de kort tevoren bedijkte polder Nieuw-Reijerwaard, gelegen achter Slikkerveer.
