Notes about Pieter van BALLEGOOIE

Pieter Van Ballegooie passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, September 20, 2012.

He was born in Dubbledam, Holland on January 7, 1925. Pieter and his wife, Hennie immigrated to the Thunder Bay District in 1953. After residing in Murillo and South Gillies for a short time, they moved to Blake Township where they owned and operated a successful dairy farm from 1955to 2009. Pieter was very active in the farming community and was a member of many farming committees, and businesses including the O.F.A., Ontario Milk Marketing Board and Co-op. Pieter enjoyed travelling locallyand abroad, both for business and pleasure. Reading also gave him great joy. In 2007 Pieter moved to Glacier Ridge Retirement Residence wherehe enjoyed the company of dear friends and caring staff.

Pieter is survived by his children and grandchildren; Magda Guise and her children David, Alan and Jason; Alice Laine and her children Stephenand Brandon; Roger (Jackie) Van Ballegooie and their children Kristen,Caitlin, and Lisa; Irene (Craig) Barnacal and their children Candace and Zachary; Bernita (Howard) Jordan and their children Carolyn and Robert; Brenda (Aldo) Pitton and Laurie Schnob. He is also survived by his brother Leendert Van Ballegooie, and in-laws, Leny Van Ballegooie, CobaMuis, Jacob & Willemien Strijker, Jannie Lunenborg, Jan and Tiny Strijker, and Aaldert and Ria Strijker as well as many nieces and nephews inboth Canada and Holland.

Pieter was predeceased by his loving wife Hennie, his parents Pieter and Macheltje Van Ballegooie, his sister Klaartje and brother Aart as well as his father and mother-in-law, Jan and Aaltje Strijker and brothersand sisters-in-law: Roelof Strijker, Albert and Rika Nijenmanting, Tinus Muis, and Albert Lunenborg.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday September 25 at 1:00 PM at theWestfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James with Rev. Scott Gale officiating. A private family interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
