Lynden resident A. Leona De Young went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, January 15, 2016 at the age of 91.
She was born January 23, 1924, to Matthew and Anna (Vander Griend) Meenk in Lynden, WA. She attended Lynden Christian Grade School then went on to graduate from Lynden High School.
Leona worked as a teller and loan officer throughout her 30 years at First National Bank.
Leona is preceded in death by her husband, Donald De Young; brothers: Jake, Maurice, Albert and Clarence Meenk; and sisters: Margaret Van Adeland Adriana Starkenburg.
Leona is survived by stepchildren: Dolores (Karl) Bosman, Jane (Curt) Lenssen, Larry De Young, Glen De Young and Gene (Nicole) De Young; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A member of Second Christian Reformed Church all her life, she was involved in many activities. She also volunteered for many years at the Lynden Christian School Elementary Library.
A time of visitation will be 5-7 PM, Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Gillies Funeral Home. A Graveside Committal will be 1:15 PM, Wednesday, January 20, at Monumenta Cemetery, followed by a 2 PM, Memorial Service at Second Christian Reformed Church, 113 8th St, Lynden, WA, with Pastor Ben de Regt officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lynden.
