Wiske Tolsma was een boerendochter en Yke was 'slechts' een timmerman en verwachtte.

Landpromoters uit USA deden in die tijd hun ronde in Friesland om mensen te vertellen over.

Yke besloot daarop te emigreren. Hij durfde dit aan niemand te vertellen, maar een oom.

erg belangrijk in hun leven. De taal hebben ze zich allen zelf eigen gemaakt.
Veel van de nakomelingen van Yke en Wiske leven nu nog in Whatcom County in de staat.
