    wordt vermeld dat in 1725 Dr. Johannes de Gorter, die in 1712 als geneesheer te Enkhuizen
    werkzaam was, op aanbeveling van Prof. Boerhaave, benoemd tot hoogleeraar in de Genees-, Kruid-
    en Scheikunde te Harderwijk. Na 29 jaren te Harderwijk werkzaam geweest te zijn, aanvaardde hij
    op 65-jarige leeftijd de betrekking van lijfarts van Keizerin Elisabeth van Rusland. Om
    gezondheidsredenen keerde hij in 1758 naar Nederland terug, hield achtereenvolgens verblijf in
    Amsterdam, Enkhuizen en Wijk-bij-Duurstede, in welke laatste stad hij in 1762 overleed. Hij
    schreef onderscheidene werken op geneeskundig gebied en stond in de geleerde wereld in hoog
    aanzien.
