-Was van 1903 tot 1907 werkzaam bij de firma Bij 't Vuur, behaalde op 16 dec. 1908 het voorlopig diploma "Machinist A Koopvaardij", vaart in 1912 op zee op de S S Cloon en komt op 21 maart aan te TJ Priock Indië (toelatingskaart), behaalt op 9 september 1914 te Utrecht het diploma "Machnist B Koopvaardij", maakt van 15 febr. tot 22 april 1915 weer een reis naar TJ Priock in Indië op de S S Belatrise. Vaart van 19 maart 1921 tot 5 april 1922 op de S S Markelo (wegens ziekte achtergebleven), vaart in 1925 op de SS Ruurlo, vaart van 12 februari 1929 tot 19 dec. 1930 op de SS Amsterdam.
Vaart als hoofdmachinist en later in de Grote Oorlog 1914-1918 als kapitein op de wilde vaart bij een Britse rederij.
Werkte bij de Koninklijke Bataafse Pakketvaart Maatschappij (voer op Ned. Indië). Na het overlijden van zijn vader nam hij diens beurtvaartonderneming over. Met het schip "De Koophandel". vervoerde hij Edammer kaas naar Alkmaar.
Ontmoette Lien Vinckers via de Wognummers, destijds een beroemd koor.
