Voor het eerst genoemd in 1411, behoorde toen tot de proosdij van St. Lebuïnus in Deventer (Lebuïnuskerk) Huidige gebouw stamt uit 1829. Het koetshuis, Doornweg 15, is van 1850. De 1e steen van dit gebouw is gelegd door Catharina Thomassen Thuessink, de echtgenote van Anthony Tobias, de toenmalige burgemeester van Zwolle. Zij had het oude gebouw van haar vader geërfd. Daarna hebben diverse generaties van de familie Tobias het huis bewoond. Vandaar dat het ook wel "Het huis van Tobias" wordt genoemd. In 1925, nadat de laatste Tobias was overleden, werd het huis verkocht aan het Dominicanenklooster. Het werd gebruikt door paters Dominicanen om er hun vrije tijd en vakanties door te brengen. De afstand tussen het Dominicanenklooster aan de Assendorperstraat in Zwolle en huize Arnichem werd eerst te voet en later per fiets afgelegd. Zo kon men plotseling geconfronteerd worden met mannen in lange pijen, iets wat niet zo gewoon was in een protestantse boeren-gemeenschap zoals Haerst in die tijd was.
