In 1863 wordt een begin gemaakt met het droogleggen van de Geer- en Kleine Blankaardpolder, op de grens van Stompwijk en Zoeterwoude en op 28 september 1865 is de klus geklaard. Willem van Marwijk was de eerste machinist van deze polder. In 1915 volgt zijn zoon Adrianus hem op. Adrianus en zijn vrouw Jozina Schrader krijgen 7 dochters en 6 zonen. Een van hun zonen, Willem van Marwijk, volgt zijn vader in 1955 op. De familie van Marwijk blijft zijn stempel op het gemaal drukken, want in 1981 volgt weer een zoon, Wim van Marwijk, zijn vader op. De Van Marwijks woonden steeds in hetzelfde huis naast het gemaal, op de dijk bij het boezemwater de Stompwijksevaart, even buiten Stompwijk. In 1989 komt het werk voor Wim te vervallen, door de installatie van een nieuwe bemalinginstallatie, die geheel automatisch werkt.
