Johan Hendrick Strick van Linschoten vervulde diverse officiële functies in Utrecht, zowel voor de stad als voor de provincie. Maar net als alle van Linschotens was zijn belangrijkste taak het waken over het familiebezit. Ook nu laat de opvolging lang op zich wachten. Johan Hendrick trouwt pas in 1724 op 40 jarige leeftijd. Zijn vrouw is de 20 jaar jongere Johanna Antonia Bernard. Ze krijgen toch nog negen kinderen. Wettelijk erfgenaam wordt de eerstgeboren zoon Adriaan.  Johan Hendrick Strick van Linschoten breidt de bezittingen van de familie nog verder uit, hij koopt in 1723 de heerlijkheden Lange Linschoten, Snelrewaard, Hekendorp en IJsselvere en krijgt hij de heerlijkheden Schagen en de Engh in leen. Johan Hendrick zet de vernieuwingen die zijn vader heeft ingezet op het landgoed voort. Hoe de tuin er uiteindelijk uitgezien kan hebben is te zien op een kaart uit 1796  (kaart uit 1796). De tuinaanleg in deze vorm is waarschijnlijk uitgevoerd tussen 1724 en 1759.
