Notes about George Dawson

[Sharen Neal.ged]

[(XXXXX@XXXX.XXX)]

George Dawson was born in Prince George's Co., Maryland, about 1716 --
soon after George I became King of England.  Both his parents had died before he reached adulthood; hence, he lived a few years with one of his older brothers.  He died after 1 August 1780 and before 2 June 1783 when his will was probated in Fayette Co., Pennsylvania.

He married Eleanor Ann Lowe in 1740.  Eleanor, daughter of John, Jr. and Mary (Hawkins), was sister to Thomas Dawson's wife, Elizabeth.  No record of her birth has been found, nor of her death, but it is known she died 11 August 1806, when her son, John, signed a statement to that effect.

He inherited from his mother, half interest of "Spring Banks," a plantation in Somerset County, Maryland.  By his early twenties, George had added two more plantations in Prince George's Co., to his holdings.  These were probably in the Rock Creek Area, as he moved there soon after marrying.  In 1770, George Dawson moved his family into western Pennsylvania, in the area which eventually became Fayette County.  They settled on a farm northeast of Uniontown, which at that time was called Beesontown.
