Notes about Frederick Amasa Montanye

Compiler of early Montanye family history, which starts:
"Compiled by Fred A. Montanye, born in the Township of Duanesburg, in Schenectady County, N.Y., near Esperance on December 16, 1878, the 4th son of Hiram and Rebecca J. (McDuffie) Montanye, m. Frances F. McCarty on June 28, 1900. ; Began his career as a teacher in the elementary schools in this section and at the present a local historian of this township [Esperance], a local preacher of the Methodist Church, a member of the Schoharie County Civil Service Commission, Treasurer of Schoharie County Republican Committee, a sunday school teacher for 30 years, conducting an active general insurance business and has found time to write a historical sketch covering the founding and development of the Village of Esperance, N.Y.

"In tracing the Montanye genealogy, the write has been somewhat hadicapped by the fact that many of our family have been exceedingly careless about keeping a concise family record and in preserving those already kept.  However, after diligent research of records obtainable and from information gleaned from various members of our family line, I have been successful in tracing our genealogy through six generations, to James Montanye, who was born in the State of New Jersey in the year 1775, or thereabout.

"In about the year 1800, this James Montanye, having married a New Jersey girl [Keziah], brought his bride up into New York State and bought a considerable tract of land, lying about three miles north of the present village of Esperance, which at that time consisted of a half dozen rude houses and was known as a State Bridge.  This tract of land purchased at that time remained in the Montanye family for about 138 years.  The descendants of this James Montanye may be traced in the following outline:"
