In 1763 Joseph and Elizabeth were living in Hamilton Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Joseph was a farmer and taxed for 1 horse and 1 cow. A little later he was employed to haul supplies to the garrison at Fort Dickenson in the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth Van Orman was on a list of "Affidavits taken at Wyoming, 1784" about "Depredations and threats at Wyoming against Pennsylvania Claimants." Then in 1785 Joseph was listed as a private in Captain Benjamin Schoonover's Company of Northampton County militia. [Source: William Henry Egle, ed.
