Inscription on headstone:
"Here lies the remains of John Bogert, son of Nicholas Bogert of New York
Obit 20 June 1804 Aetat 19 years 9 mos 1 day.
His virtues endeared him to his relatives and friends
His understanding was respectable and matured beyond his years;
His character was irreproachable;
He died lamented as he was esteemed."
"He was in the employ of Bogert & Mansfield (later Bogert & Kneeland) Shipping Merchants and went to Savannah in their interest and while engaged in loading a ship with cotton lost his life." Journals of John Nicolas Bogert, page 48.

Tues., July 24, 1804. At Savannah, Geogia, on the 20th June, Mr. John
BOGART in the 20th year of his age, son of Mr. Nicholas BOGART of Beek-
man, New York.
Wed., Jan 26 1814. In the town of Beekman, Friday last, Nicholas BOGART,
Esq. in his 89th year.
