Esperance -- Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Roland V. Gage, 76, who died Monday [25 August 1980] at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a short illness.
Born in Esperance, Mr. Gage had operated the Gage Insurance Company in Esperance. Memberships include the Schoharie and Schenectady Counties Fire Insurance Association, of which he was president and had served as secretary, 1931-68; treasurer, 1931-80; director and agent, 1927-80. ; He was a member of the Guilderland Mutual Reinsurance Company, serving as president, 1949-60; vice-president, 1940-49; director, 1940-80. He was also a member of the Cooperative Windstorm Insurance Company of New York, serving as director, 1941-44. He served as past president and former director of the New York Cooperative Insurance Association and was director of the Community State Bank of Schenectady from 1953 to 1980; he was a 60-year active member and past trustee of the Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church; past undersheriff of Schoharie County; member and fire chief of the Esperance Volunteer Fire Dept. and past deputy Sachem of the Independent Order of Redmen of Esperance.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Alexander Gage; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Arn of Esperance; a brother, attorney James L. Gage of Esperance; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and a cousin.
Services will be at 2 p.m. at the Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Esperance Cemetery. Calling hours are tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 46 Main St., Delanson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Esperance Rescue Squad or Education Building Fund of Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church.
