MONTANYE'S MISSING MONEY -- The Police Authorities Trying to Ascertain How It Left the Dead Man's Person --
The alleged disappearance of the greater part of the money from the corpse of Vincent P. Montanye while it was being removed from the Broad street restaurant, where he expired, and the Ninth street police station, on Saturday last, has led Chief Givin to undertake an investigation of the matter to-day.  At the inquest it was sworn to by Policeman Lewis of the Eighth District that when he was called in he searched the garments of the deceased and found a roll of notes in a coat pocket and two double-eagles and some loose money in other pockets.  This he replaced in the presence of the saloon-keeper.  He waited in the restaurant until Orr came up and removed the body in a furniture wagon to the police station. All that the sergeant received there and turned over to the Coroner's driver was $34.  What became of the rest on the road to the police station is the point the inquiry has undertaken to solve.  Yesterday Montanye's three sons visited the Coroner's office and wanted to know how they could go about getting the whole of Vincent's money.  One said that he knew his father had four double eagles when he left home on Saturday last.  Deputy Coroner Beam handed over the amount received from Lieutenant Jordan and referred the brothers to the Mayor for further information.
