1696, at Southampton House, and baptised 1 November, at St. Giles-in-the-Fields; usually known    ;  (though improperly) as LORD Roos, 1703-10/1, and styled MARQUESS OF GRANBY, 1710/1 to 1720/1; educated, perhaps, at Eton, 1706-7; M.P. (Whig) for Rutland, 1719/20 to 1720/1; Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, 1721-79; a Lord of the Bedchambcr, 1721-27, nominated and invested K.G. 10 October, and installed 13 November 1722; P.C. 17 July 1727; Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, 17 July 1727 to May 1736; bore the Queen's Sceptre with the Cross at the Coronations of George II, 11 October 1727, and George III, 27 September 1761; raised a Regiment of Foot against the Jacobites, 1745; one of the mourners at the funeral of the Prince of Wales, 13 April 1751; Lord Steward of the Household, 1755-61; one of the Lord Justices (Regents) of the Realm, April to September 1755; Groom of the Stole, 1761; Master of the Horse, 1761-66.  He married, 27 August 1717, at Kelham, Notts, Bridget, younger daughter but eventually sole heir of Robert (SUTTON), 2nd BARON LEXINGTON OF ARAM, by Margaret, daughter and heir of Sir Giles HUNGERFORD, of Coulston, Wilts.  She, who was born and baptised 30 November 1699, at St. James's, Westminster, died 16 June 1734, at Kelham, in her 35th year. He died 29 May 1779, at Rutland House, Knightsbridge, aged 82, and was buried 12 June, at Bottesford.
