Erfgenaam van Philips van Saint Pol (†1430), hertog van Brabant. Philips III eistte Brabant op, hetgeen echter een Duits leen was, en geen Frans. Keizer Sigismund eistte het dus op, maar Philips weigerde. Hij beloofde de Brabantsche Staten veel, waarop zij hem als hun heer inhuldigden. Margaretha werd dus beroofd van haar erfdeel.
