BREDEHOFF (Mr. François van), Vrijheer van Oosthuizen, Heer van Etershem enz. zoon van den voorgaande, geboren in 1648 te Hoorn, volgde zijnen vader in 1675 als Hoogschout op, welk ambt hij bleef bekleeden tot in 1699 toen hij door zijnen zoon Mr. Adriaan van Bredehoff vervangen werd, behoudens sijn rang en functie bij indispositie of absentie van sijn Ed. soon. In 1700 werd hij Gecommitteerde Raad; in 1688, Lid zijnde ter vergadering van de Staten-Generaal, werd hij naar den Keurvorst van Brandenburg tot gewigtigen handel afgevaardigd.

Hij verwierf door ondervinding en trouw veel invloed in de Staatscollegiën, en bleef onafgebroken in het bewind tot aan zijn overlijden, den 4den Mei 1721. Op zijn graf in de kerk te Oosthuizen is eene fraaije tombe van zwart en wit marmer geplaatst. Hij was driemalen gehuwd geweest, eerst met Johanna Humel, daarna met Cecilia de Jonge van Ellemeet en eindelijk met Magteld van der Graaf. Bij zijne eerste vrouw had hij behalven den reeds genoemden Mr. Adriaan van Bredehoff, Mr. François van Bredehoff, die volgt.
