Zijn kloosternaam is Broeder Salesius. Zo was hij in zijn jonge jaren bekend in de kloostergemeenschap, waarvoor hij perfecte togen maakte, de jonge broeders het Gregoriaans bijbracht en opgewekt omging met zijn medebroeders.
Zijn akten godsdienst A en B wezen op een mens met een diep godsdienstig innerlijk en zijn muzikaliteit werd bevestigd in zijn bevoegdheden voor koordirectie en organist. Het bleek als spoedig dat hij zeer geschikt was voor begeleiding van de jeugd en niet lang daarna zien we hem, bevoegd met kinderbescherming A, werkzaam in het weeshuis in Den Haag en het Sint-Jozefhuis in Den Bosch.
In 1954 maakte hij de overtocht naar Curaçao. Daar ging hij werken in het GouvernementsOpvoedingsGesticht (G.O.G.), speciaal belast met de zorg voor pedagogisch en gevoelsmatig verwaarloosde jongens uit een defect milieu. Als opvoeder, overste, directeur heeft hij daar met hart en ziel gewerkt en nieuwe kansen geschapen voor de jeugd aan de zelfkant.
Zijn onderscheiding Ridder in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau bewijst dit. Toen de tijd van het pensioen was gekomen maakte hij de overstap naar Canada, waar hij zich bijzonder inzette voor het convent Calgary. Broeder Henry, zo werd hij nu aangesproken, vond de weg in de keuken waar hij voor de broeders en gasten smakelijke maaltijden klaarmaakte. Als overste van het convent stond zijn open en opgewekt karakter garant voor de goede sfeer. Zijn koren zowel in Canada als op Curaçao gaven hem het muzikaal genot waar hij zo'n behoefte aan had en in het fotograferen van dieren was hij een kunstenaar. Helaas werden zijn longproblemen groter en met broeder Chris besloot hij naar Nederland terug te keren. Aanvankelijk maakte hij het goed in Dongen en bezocht met groot plezier zijn familie in Groningen. Maar de benauwenis nam toe en werd steeds zwaarder. Op 29 januari is broeder Henry rustig overleden. Hij sloot zich aan bij het koor van de engelen om met hen Gods lof te zingen.
