De volgende
Op een overzicht van het onderwijzend personeel, waar iemand 'februari 1837' op geschreven heeft, maar die van later in het jaar moet zijn, - invnr 180, scan 124 - zien we dat hij (Jakob) weg is. De functie van derde onderwijzer is vacant.
Maar wie zien we op dat overzicht staan als een van de 'ondermeesters' bij het derde gesticht? H. Sasburg! Harmen is ook het onderwijs ingegaan!
Onderwijzer Harmen
Harmen wordt per 9 oktober 1837 bevorderd van 4e ondermeester tot 3e ondermeester bij het eerste gesticht Veenhuizen, zie invnr 188, scan 137. Later volgt de promotie van 3e tot 2e ondermeester, invnr 213, scan 141. Op het overzicht van wezen op invnr 201 scan 18 zien we Harmen staan als 'schoolonderwijzer' terwijl jongere broer Reint er staat als 'schoollier'. Maar dan valt het doek voor de onderwijscarrière van Harmen. In deze brief - invnr 216, scan 78 - meldt de directeur dat Harmen IJzaaks Sasburg in militaire dienst moet. Dat gebeurt ook. Hij verlaat op 16 juli 1839 Veenhuizen voor de Nationale Militie.
Van familie-onderzoekers begrijp ik dat hij daarmee definitief afscheid neemt van het onderwijs. Hij blijft in het leger. Hij trouwt als 'Kapitein der Infanterie' en in zijn overlijdensakte staat dat hij gepensioneerde officier was.
