Notes about Johanna Hendrika "Jo" Neijzen

Als derde dochter van Petrus Neijzen en Johanna Ijem op 27 oktober 1906 in Yogyakarta (voormalig Nederlands Indië) geboren. Haar jeugd heeft ze grotendeels in Malang doorgebracht. In het Bataviaasch Nieuwsblad van 29-06-1923 is te lezen dat Jo voor de examens Machineschrijven Hauff's systeem en Stenografie A. (Theorie van het stelsel Pitman), welke in Malang afgenomen zijn op 13 en 14 juni 1923, is geslaagd.
Op 22 maart 1924 trad zij in het huwelijk met Carl Jurcka, met wie zij tien kinderen kreeg. Helaas is haar eerste dochter op zeer jonge leeftijd overleden. De oorlogsjaren waren zwaar en moeilijk. Met zeven van haar kinderen overleefde zij onder barre omstandigheden het vrouwenkamp "Bangkinang" op Sumatra. Na de oorlog kwam zij met haar kinderen, maar voorlopig zonder echtgenoot, naar Nederland. Opnieuw brak een moeilijke periode voor haar aan.
Ze was streng maar rechtvaardig en heeft haar kinderen een gelukkige jeugd bezorgd. Samen met haar man heeft ze na vele jaren hard werken en met veel doorzettingsvermogen een eigen huisje kunnen kopen. Na het overlijden van haar man in 1967 was zij een echt hoofd en spil van de familie. Tot op hoge leeftijd heeft ze zelfstandig mogen wonen in haar huis. De laatste twee jaar is ze liefdevol verzorgd in zorgcentrum De Doekenborg, waar ze op de respectabele leeftijd van 101 jaar is overleden.
