Notes about Leendert Krook

Het leven van Leendert en Emma speelde zich voor een groot deel af in de tropen. Zijn eerste baan was bij de Bataafsche Petroleum Maatschappij (BPM) in den Haag, waar hij van september 1947 tot maart 1952 werkzaam was, onderbroken door 2 1/2 jaar militaire dienst bij de Koninklijke Luchtmacht, waar hij werd opgeleid tot meteoroloog. In maart 1952 werd hij voor drie jaar uitgezonden naar Nieuw-Guinea voor het doen van zwaartekrachtsmetingen t.b.v. de exploiratie van aardolie. Hier ontmoet hij Emma Tuilan, met wie hij later, terug in Nederland, zou trouwen. In Nederland studeerde hij van 1955 tot 1962 geologie en fysische geografie in Utrecht. Na een assistentschap werd hij voor de Geologisch Mijnbouwkundige Dienst (GMD) naar Suriname uitgezonden. Na verlof in Nederland in 1967 keert hij naar Suriname terug om achtereenvolgens te werken bij de GMD, Reynolds (een aluminium maatschappij) en Grassalco (een Surinaamse mijnbouwmaatschappij). In 1974 maakt hij voor Reynolds enkele reizen naar het Amazonegebied in Brazilie voor de prospectie van bauxiet. Terug in Nederland in 1976 wordt hij wetenschappelijk medewerker aan de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam, waar hij in 1979 promoveert. Het is een afwisselende werkkring met veel excursies en veldwerk in Europa, enkele buitenlandse conferenties en korte perioden van onderwijs aan de Gadjah Mada Universiteit te Yogyakarta, Indonesie. Na zijn pensionering in october 1993 blijft hij nog nauw betrokken bij het vak.
Dit gezin heeft nog een zoon: Gezin Roelof. I.v.m. pravicy overwegingen zijn de verdere gegevens geblokkeerd.
