Thomas, die ruim zeveneneenhalf jaar jonger was dan zijn broer Jo, bracht als middelbare scholier ook zijn schooljaren op ’Zwanenburg’ in Haarlem door. Zijn ouders woonden toen in Helvoirt (N-Br). Hij had in eerste instantie veel minder belangstelling voor de bollen dan broer Jo, maar draaide later bij. De gebroeders Hoog waren ’de neven’ op wie de hele familie trots was. Zij raakten bij het bedrijf van Cornelis van Tubergen jr. betrokken, Jo vanaf 1882 en Thomas vanaf 1890, en zouden op den duur in zijn voetsporen treden, dankzij hun grote werkkracht, belangstelling en intelligentie. In 1905 traden beide broers als firmant toe tot het bedrijf en in 1919, na het overlijden van Cornelis jr, namen de broers het bedrijf geheel over. In 1928 werd de firma omgezet in een naamloze vennootschap. J.M.C. en Th.M. Hoog werden toen beiden directeur van de ’NV C.G. van Tubergen’s Bloembollen- en Zaadhandel’, te Haarlem. In deze hoedanigheid hebben zij de zaak nog verder uitgebreid. Na hun overlijden in onderscheidenlijk 1950 en 1948 zetten hun zoons en kleinzoons de onderneming voort, aanvankelijk nog in Haarlem en sedert 1979 te Lisse.
