    CHANNAHON – Mr. Emmett J. Einhaus, 78, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Channahon, Ill., on Sunday, May 24, 2009.

    Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, May 28, from the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Joliet for Mass at 10 a.m. Internment will be in St. Columbus Cemetery in Ottawa, Ill.

    Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the funeral home.

    Born in Seneca on Sept. 16, 1930, he was a son to Francis Einhaus and Louella Einhaus (Gordon).

    Mr. Einhaus was a graduate of Seneca High School, with the Class of 1950, where he played varsity basketball. He followed the team for the rest of his life.

    Shortly after high school, on Feb. 14, 1953, he married his sweetheart Patricia Mann of Ottawa. She followed him to Ft. Carson, Colo., where he sergved in the U.S. Army as a sergeant until his honorable discharge.

    After leaving the military, Mr. Einhaus went to work for Caterpillar Company. He climbed up through the ranks at Caterpillar, rising from a shop foreman to a factory manager. He traveled extensively for Caterpillar, sharing his manufacturing and computer expertise as far away as Europe and Japan.

    Mr. Einhaus was a man's man who loved work, golf and God.

    He loved the game of golf and still had a great swing. Last year, at age 77, while golfing with friends, he was still good enough to get a hole in one at Nettle Creek Country Club.

    More important than everything else was his love of God. He practiced Jesus' commandment to love others as himself. He was a friend who you could go to in times of need.

    Mr. Einhaus was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia.

    He is survived by his brothers, Dugan Einhaus and Bernie Einhaus, several nieces and nephews, and a close companion and friend, Jan Ruddy. He will be greatly missed.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Einhaus' name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
