In het doopboek van de jaren 1676-1700 van de Hervormde gemeente te Groningen wordt Maria Joesten vermeld, de dochter van Joest Caspers en Swantien Cornelis (wonende bij het Jacobi gasthuis).
In het doopboek heb ik geen andere Maria Joostens of Joesten aangetroffen. Waarschijnlijk is zij dezelfde als Maria Joostens, de echtgenote van Elle Pouwels.

Maria Joostens is eerder getrouwd geweest met Jan Taelens (van Glimmen). Getrouwd op 30 Aug 1695 door ds. Berema.
