Arie Aartsen, bezig met hout verslepen. De foto is gemaakt door de eromheen lopende vakantiegangers. Ze stuurden de afdruk later op.
Arie volgde zijn vader op in het bedrijf; samen met broer Gerrit vervoerde hij heel wat born en uit de Veluwse bossen naar de afnemers.
Moest het ver weg, dan ging dat per spoor.
De loswallen bij de stations van Beekbergen en Loenen waren dan het eindpunt. Op deze loswallen werd het hout reeds bewerkt tot mijnhout en dergelijke.

Onbegrijpelijk dat de mannen de zware bomen op de wagens konden krijgen.
Ze hadden natuurlijk we! manieren bedacht.
Zo beurden ze de top van de boom met een paar man achter de rong van de achterwagen.
Dan liet men het paard aantrekken tot het ondereind van de boom ter hoogte van de voorste rong van de wagen was, liet het paard stoppen, dompte de boom die dan enigszins in balans hing van achteren, schoof de boom op de wagen en zette de rong terug.

Was een vracht afgeleverd, dan werd er in de Smitten berg in Beekbergen, of Den Eikenboom in Loenen, een borrel gedronken. Alcohol speelde in dat verkeer nog geen rol, de paarden vonden, met eventueel slap en de voermannen, de weg naar huis zelf weI.

zoon Arie van de ouders Bastiaan en Gerritje volge zijn vader Bastiaan op.
Arie trouwde met Gerritje Bloem; ze gingen eerst wonen op DeeIen, later op Hoog Baario in Hoenderloo.
Er werden zeven kinderen geboren. Rinus voIgde ten zijn vader op.

Over de weg hebben grote auto's, die ge!aden worden met kranen, het vervoer overgenomen.
