AUSTIN -- Eldon David Peter, age 78, of Austin, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at his home in Sebring, Fla.
He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Elmore, Minn., to Theodore and Lillie (Ristau) Peter. He graduated from the Elmore High School and from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn. He was an insurance agent and Agency Manager for First Insurance/USBank Corp. Eldon was married to Louella Honstad on Aug. 19, 1948, at Rake, Iowa. Louella died Dec. 31, 1987. On Nov, 25, 1989, he was married to Eldeen Hart at St Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.
Eldon was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, past president of the Austin Jaycees, and a member of the Elks and Kiwanis clubs. He was an avid gardener who also enjoyed golfing, fishing and home improvement projects.
He is survived by his wife, Eldeen Peter, of Austin, Minn.; daughters and sons-in-law: Karen and John McMasters, of Austin, Minn.; Nancy and David Hoversten, of Austin, Minn.; sons: Jeff Peter, of Florence, S.C.; Gary Peter, of St. Paul, Minn.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; step daughters and son-in-law: Karleen Kos, of Chicago, Ill.; Jackie and James Ceurvels, of Nashua, N.H.; three step-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Eldon Ehrich, of Elmore, Minn.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louella, two brothers, and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with The Reverend Glenn L. Monson officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be held at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary today from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church for one hour before the service.
Honorary bearers are Julie McMasters, Kjirsten Hoversten, Marit Hoversten, Kelly Morris and Kristin Peter. Casket bearers are Scott McMasters, Mark McMasters, Kjell Hoversten, Delmer Ehrich, David Ehrich and Brian Ehrich.
The family prefers memorials to the Salvation Army.
