Notes about Louis John (Lewis) Fry

Donna Averill has Social Security card of LJ Fry and it is issued to Louis J. Fry. Tombstone reads Louis. It is believed when he moved from Illinois to Colorado he changed the spelling of his name and dropped the e from Frye. Post card from James Hardy post marked 1910/Carthage, Ill, to Mrs. Lewis J. Frye. Marriage certificate Lewis J Frye. Most letters he signed as L. J. Fry in beautiful old script. Donna Averill

Information from the Crabill book lists LJ I believe as Lute. Photo in Scrapbook that Grace Fry, daughter of LJ wrote on the back Ophelia, Alma, "Daddy", Lannie, Mark and one other can not be read. 2-25-00 Pat and Pete Crabill from Florida supplied me with children of John Oliver Frye and Lucinda Crabill. Mark, Lute, Lanny, Harry, Huber, Ophelia, Alma and Eva. That night I found the photo and the link fell into place. See notes on Benjamin S Crabill for land info that I got that day also to further verify this link. Many of the photo's in the scrapbook Grace wrote on the back of, pictures: Me and Daddy, Daddy's sheep; the "Daddy" looks identical. Donna Averill

2-27-00 At church today I talked to Ralph Knight from Fowler Colorado, His mother Fannie Knight knew LJ and Mary Fry. Ralph has heard LJ referred to as Lute or Lutie all his life. That is what people called Louis/Lewis in Fowler and Lamar. So there we have another confrimation of the Crabill link to Lucinda. Donna Averill.

The family were farmers in Illinois and found a photo of "Daddy's Sheep" from Enid, OK, not sure where that fit in. Unfortunately we did not get many stories about LJ, he died before we were born. I think he looks amazing, fine chizeled proud features convey such competance. Can see laugh lines there also and I know to be married to Gr. Gma they had fun, she allways made us laugh. I can imagine raising stubborn Ira would have taken a strong hand!!!!!!
