    Maaike Streekstra was born in October 1827 in the country village Hallum in the utter northern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, municipality Ferwerderadeel, daughter of the 26 years old laborer Jan Pieters Streekstra and Albertje Harmens Vriesema.

    On Thursday 30 December 1852 Maaike Jans Streekstra, daughter of late Jan Pieters Streekstra and laborer Albertje Harmens Vriesema, married in the country village Ferwerd, seat of municipality Ferwerderadeel, at the age of 25 years to the five older laborer Marten Jans Spoelstra, born in Hallum too, son of late Jan Klazes Spoelstra and laborer Grietje Martens Swart.

    They had in Hallum the following five children Spoelstra:
    * Jan, born on 11 December 1852;
    * Albertje, 18 November 1854, died on 5 September 1861 in Hallum;
    * Pieter, 1 July 1857;
    * Klaas, 22 November 1859;
    * Albert, 23 September 1863.

    Her husband and father Marten Spoelstra was in all those birth years a laborer.

    In March 1864 her husband, laborer Marten Jans Spoelstra died at the age of 41 years in house number 38 of his birth and residence place Hallum, municipality Ferwerderadeel, Friesland.

    On Saturday 11 May 1867 Maaike Jans Streekstra, daughter of Jan Pieters Streekstra and Albertje Harmens Vriesema, both deceased, remarried in the country village Ferwerd at the age of 39 years to the six years older laborer Marten Sjoerds Swart aka Zwart (= Black), born in Hallum too, son of Sjoerd Martens Swart and Feykje Andries van der Wal, both deceased.

    They had in Hallum the following children Zwart:
    * Sjoerd Martens, 21 December 1867;
    * Albertje "Ella", 31 December 1869.

    Their father Marten Sjoerds Zwart was in both years a laborer.

    In the period 1870-1880 Maaike Streekstra was living in house number 114a of Hallum, with her husband Marten Sjoerds Zwart (truck farmer [gardenie], their children Sjoerd and Albertje Martens Zwart, and her children from her first marriage to Marten Jans Spoelstra: Jan, Pieter, Klaas and Albert Martens Spoelstra. They were all Christian Reformed (Gereformeerd). Her son, laborer Jan Martens Spoelstra married on 11 November 1876 Sjieuwke Aukes Bennema, also born and living in Hallum, and moved to the house of her parents, number 94a in Hallum, where they had on 10 December 1877 daughter Aaltje Jans Spoelstra and on 20 December 1879 son Marten Jans Spoelstra. They were all four four noted as Dutch Reformed (Nederlands Hervormd).

    In 1880 Maaike Streekstra was living in house number 263 of Hallum, with her husband Marten Sjoerds Zwart (laborer), their children Sjoerd and Albertje Martens Zwart, and her children from her first marriage to Marten Jans Spoelstra, Pieter (laborer), Klaas (laborer) and Albert Martens Spoelstra (laborer).

    They all seven emigrated in 1882 to North America, very probably to the Dutch truck farmers settlement of Roseland, since 1892 a southern district of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, where her son Jan Martens Spoelstra was already living with his family since 1881.

    In 1880 her son Jan Martens Spoelstra (b. 18 [has to be: 11] December 1852 in Hallum, laborer) was living in house number 220 of Hallum, with his wife Sjieuwke Aukes Bennema (18 Dec 1854, Hallum), daughter Aaltje Jans Spoelstra (10 Dec 1877, Hallum) and son Marten Jans Spoelstra (20 Dec 1879, Hallum). They were then Christian Reformed (Gereformeerd) and emigrated in 1881 to North America.

    Her husband Martin Swart died in March 1892 at the age of 70 years in the Dutch truck farmers settlement of Roseland, since 1892 a southern district of Chicago. Widow Maaike died in Chicago too, in November 1893 at the age of 66 years.
